Martin Luther King JrDr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speeches are as prescient and important as ever. Though he was assassinated more than four decades ago. Martin Luther King Jr. Day events in Miami-Dade and Broward. Martin Luther King Parade and Celebration: Parade begins at Charlie Will Thomas Park, 800 NW Eighth Ave., Dania Beach and heads south to Northwest First Street, then east to Federal Highway, south to Stirling Road, west to Phippin-Waiters Road, east to Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 6 SW Sixth Ave. Events include games, guest speakers, food, train rides and face painting; 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday. 954-924-3881.


Open Gym and Entertainment for Kids on MLK Day: Children 5 and older will have a fun morning on their day off from school. Kids will enjoy open play, including trampolines, rope swings, giant foam pit, tumble track, and obstacle courses. Entertainment includes a performance by a Justin Bieber Celebrity Look-a-Like Impersonator. Food includes pizza and snacks. Total net proceeds from the event benefits Voices for Children of Broward County, supporting the Guardian ad Litem program of Broward County; 10 a.m. Monday; [Jan. 16]; TAG USA Gymnastics, 1951 N. MLK Day Parade: The parade steps off at 9 a.m. at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, 591 NW 31st Ave., Fort Lauderdale. From there, the route goes east on Northwest Sixth Street to 27th Avenue, then north to Dillard High School, 2501 NW 11th St.; 7:30 a.m. Monday. $25 registration for parade vehicles. 954-321-1234.
